Now for something totally different: The Long Way 'Round, by far the most personal and challenging story I've ever written, is out in the May issue of Backpacker. The piece tracks my 3-week journey on Montana's new Sacred Door Trail, an American pilgrimage that aims to bring a healthy dose of spirituality to the backcountry trek. Did it work? It did--and then some.
And my first project with Sunset just hit newsstands with the May issue, and it's something near and dear to my heart: talking about the awesomeness of camping. Even the awesomeness of camping during a raging thunderstorm in a leaking tent when you're 10 (you know, I never did find the swimsuit that blew away into the woods that night).
